Why Serena, Why?

It’s been nearly two (2) weeks since Serena’s epic meltdown at the U. S. Open Finals.   It took awhile for me to get over my disappointment.  Not so much that she lost, but how she lost.  And no, I don’t blame the chair umpire for her behavior.  His blame may be that he is a prick but he was well within his rights to be one.   Serena had ample opportunity to calm down and regain her wits under the pressure that young Miss Naomi Osaka was levying against her.    I have watched so many Serena matches over the years that I feel I can tell when she is about to lose control and pass a void where she cannot will herself back from.  By far the two biggest times were at the U.S. Open where, it was wildly felt, that she would have loss those Matches anyway.  I am not going to relive the blow by blow of what happened during this recent match.  However I do know that all Serena had to do was let the warning for “coaching” bounce off her strong shoulders, regardless of whether she saw or accepted said coaching.  Suffice to say, if she were winning handily she probably would have.  Sometimes being the G.O.A.T. requires the same strength in the face of a loss.   I do like the way she attempted to give the lime light back to its rightful owner – 20 year old and hopefully new phenom, Naomi Osaka.   I would love to see and write more about this mosaically blended young lady.   As for Serena the quest for 24 continues and lord willing I will be there to witness it.  Until then be sure to visit me from time to Time, “on the swivel at the sportsbar”.
